I'm a Closet Composter

Hi, I'm Danae. And I like to make compost. That means I keep food scraps in my kitchen. Sometimes that stinks when I'm accumulating enough to merit a trip to the bin. That's not OK with the DH, so I hide it. Lately its under the kitchen sink in a plastic tub. SHHHH! Please don't tell! If he knew, it would be banned (again).
This time of year my compost bin is brimming with leaves raked from the yard. I can just imagine the luscious compost that will be mine next year, blanketing my hopeful garden in my hopeful yard.  This is my first batch of compost, really, so its hopeful too. The more food scraps the better the compost, so next time you're in my kitchen, be careful opening the cupboards.

  1. I am a fellow composter, but I don't have a cool bin like you. We dug a big hole in our dirt and throw everything in there. I am on my second year of composting and so far, so good. I put my scraps in a gallon sized bag on my kitchen counter. Good luck! You'll be so happy to see the fattest worms you've ever seen in your compost next spring.

  2. We compost too, but when the snow flies it's hard to get anyone to make a trip out to the compost pile!

  3. I've always wanted to be a composter!! but you know don, as he is your uncle, that's a no go.
but in my alter-ego, birkenstock, grayhaired universe I have a lovely steaming pile of compost cooking and vege skins happily resting in a darling enameled bucket on the kitchen sink, waiting to jump into said pile!
thanks for the encouraging words for Sundance!
